During the cold winter months many people pay extra attention to outer wear. They buy nice gloves or mittens. They add layers and buy a heavy winter coat. They may even invest in a scarf and boots. However, people often forget the importance of a hat.

Why Forget the Hat?

It probably starts during childhood. Your parents put the hat on your head, and you take it off. It’s hot. It’s itchy. It’s uncomfortable. As you grow and mature into a teenager, hats just aren’t cool. To make matters worse, they mess up your hair.

Adults are often simply too busy to bother finding a hat they like and wearing it. Yet the right hat can make a huge difference! And there are thousands of hats to choose from, making it simple to find a hat that’s both stylish and functional.

Getting Your Young Kids to Wear a Hat

During the cold months a young child can lose a lot of heat through the top of their head. Wearing a hat will help keep them warm and toasty. It can help keep them healthy, too. Their body doesn’t have to struggle to stay warm and can focus on more important tasks like fighting germs.

The trick to getting your young child to wear a hat is to find a hat that’s comfortable for them. Turtle fur and other soft fabrics are preferred by many toddlers and elementary school children. If your child has a favorite character, then a hat with that character can help them find a fondness for the hat.

Can You Motivate Teenagers to Wear Hats?

Teenagers are the most challenging age group. They have their own ideas about what’s right and cool. In fact, it can be a challenge to get them to wear a coat during the winter – let alone a hat. Have them choose the hat that they wear. Give them the freedom to make that decision. The more they like the hat, the more likely they are to wear it. If you can’t convince them to wear it when they’re heading outside, ask them to simply take it with them. If they need it badly enough, your teen will likely put on their hat.

What about You?

Okay, so the teenagers and youngsters are covered. What about you? How can you find a hat to keep the heat in and still look fashionable? Consider finding a few different hats for a number of occasions. For example, you might choose a wool beret for days when you’re heading to work and a ski cap for outdoor activities. Wool is a fantastic material for teenagers and adults. It dries quickly, is durable, and comes in a number of colors, patterns, and styles.

Hats help keep the heat in, so you’ll feel warmer and more comfortable. You’ll also be able to stay outside longer and enjoy some fresh air or sunshine, depending on your location.
